Happy New Year 2023!

1/1/2023

Hello everyone!

2022 has officially come to a close and we're moving in to a new year. Ol' 22 was pretty decent to us. We saw the premiere of our latest feature, a new animated short film and a handful of great collaborations. As you can imagine, we're still very early into 2023, so there is a lot to be determined. However, I'll do my best here to highlight everything we're looking to accomplish.

PERSONAL HISTORY
With the film having made its debut, there has been a long waiting period on what our next move will be. That said, it may be a little longer before we know. Broadly speaking, the film will see a digital release, likely in the middle portion of the year.
In less important news, we released the soundtrack album a few weeks ago. That can be found HERE.

SHORT FILMS
We have a couple of co-produced projects that have yet to be released online left over from last year. Fritz Robinson's GOOD LISTENER will likely be released after wrapping up its festival run. The Take36 project, CHEKHOV'S HAND GRENADE, is just waiting on a bit of ADR.
Briefly mentioned on the latest episode of our podcast, we have been working on a horror project with Kurt T. Choate. We will be shooting this in the first part of the year. The short is called BLINDISGHT and will be helmed by David Wayne Young and Kurt.
We're also continuing to work on another short film with Fritz Robinson called DEATH IN LAVENDER. This is a 16mm crime short. There is one more day of shooting left to go in the spring before we move into post-production.
Finally, we are producing a short film directed by Gina Bryant-Nugen called HOLE IN THE GROUND. Also to be shot in the early part of the year.
Needless to say, we'll be busy for the next few months.

NEW FEATURES
We've sorta softly announced these in the past. We are currently developing a live-action horror feature as well as a new animated comedy. It wouldn't be smart to say much more this early in the game. It will probably be a while before there is any news of substance on these. I'll leave it at that. ANYWAY!

COMICS
It's probably a good time to throw out an update on where these projects sit. Ideally, we would love to release THE DOG PARK Volume 2 this year. We made a good amount of progress last year. The animated short definitely sidelined it a bit. I'd say at best, we could try for the end of the year on this one. It will be a big undertaking no matter how you look at it.
As for A SCRIPT CALLED MISERY, there has been no major movement since the last time it came up. It's a low priority at this point. We are still determined to get it out there eventually. This project has just been a victim of circumstance.

PODCAST

We're about to move into the ninth season of our movie podcast. We'll be kicking things off with our annual tradition of The Golden Jamie Awards, running down every new film we saw in 2022 and declaring our top five favorites. We're all very excited for the line up of episodes we have this year. We have a lot of fun topics and guest appearances that we can't wait to do.

The future remains unwritten as usual. We'll see how everything goes. Bottom line, we hope to putting out cool projects for you to enjoy.

Have a Happy New Year!

November Catch Up

It's been a little over a month so it's about time I write an update! Lots of things have happened, so hopefully I remember everything.

A SCRIPT CALLED MISERY:
We released the first issue of our comic book series, A SCRIPT CALLED MISERY. It's been doing pretty well so far. We launched it at Air Capital Comic Con earlier this month and nearly sold out. It was a great time for sure! We are making plans for further hard copy releases, but currently the issue is available digitally through Amazon and VHX. You can find the links and a few preview pages HERE.
The series is meant to be a quarterly release so there will be a few month in between each issue. The full script is written, so Beth works on pages during down time from LEFT HOOK. Can't wait for you guys to see the rest of this thing, we're all very proud of it.

PODCAST NEWS:
So this month has been our yearly hiatus, meaning no new episodes for now. However, we will be returning next month with Season 5. We have some cool things planned for this season and something I'm excited to say is that we have a new announcer for the intro and outro; fellow Wichita filmmaker, Lief Jonker. This dude is a local legend and we're so happy to have him on board.
More than likely, we will be returning next week with Creed II. Hope you'll tune in!

HOLIDAY BUNDLE:
Lastly, until January 1st, we have a special deal happening on VHX. We have created a bundle with LIVING AFTER MIDNIGHT, BRIMSTONE TERRACE, ANOTHER DAY COLDER, HOW MUCH and FALLING OUT (plus all of their bonus features) for $5. That's 8 hours of content. Along with scripts and an art book. If you ask me, it's a pretty great deal and it's also a great way to support us. All funds from this and our comic go towards funding LEFT HOOK. So check out the deal HERE.

That's all I've got for now. See ya next time!

Falling Out, Behind the Scenes & More!

Hey!
So we just released a whole bunch of things. Here is a post playing catch up!

FALLING OUT:
Most important is the release of our new short film, FALLING OUT! On Tuesday, we had a premiere via livestream, which was pretty fun. Those who stuck around got to see the companion short that we shot along side this one. The film itself is available on our website, HERE. You can also access the bonus feature package by giving $1 or more on VHX. The package includes a bonus short, a 20-minute behind the scenes roundtable and the original scripts.

BRIMSTONE TERRACE:
Speaking of VHX, the 5th Anniversary Edition of BRIMSTONE TERRACE came out on the 23rd. It is also sitting on VHX for $1 and there is a good amount of content on there. All profits from both of these things go straight to the budget of LEFT HOOK.
Picture
LEFT HOOK:
For those who would be interested, we have been updating our backers over on the Indiegogo page as production has progressed. We're making lots of progress, slowly but surely. Anyway, the reason I bring this up is because we have also been posting behind the scenes videos every month so far. We started the process about 6 months ago. So now we want to start making those videos public.
If you want to see everything six months ahead of time, you can check out the Support page on the Left Hook website. Otherwise, we'll be releasing the old videos each month from here on out.
This first one is from a while back. It covers the early voice acting process and how we started the project off. Not all of them are podcasts like this. We just thought it would make for a good introduction.

PODCAST:
Speaking of podcasts, we released an episode a week or two ago for the films of Isao Takahata. The episode features Chris, Beth and I. The next one will be coming out in a week or so, so stay tuned.

Anyway, I think that is all the news we've got for you. There will be more big updates coming soon.

Upcoming Release Dates & More!

Hey!
We've got a few things to talk about today, so I'll just jump right into it.
Picture
FALLING OUT:
Our first piece of news is about one of our new short films, FALLING OUT. This one is a live action film directed by David J. Cantu. We finished it back in late-May or early-June. We've mostly been trying to figure out what we wanted to do with it. We wanted to organize a premiere at the stage we shot it on, but summer theater season dashed those hopes. Turns out we shot it at just the right time.
Ultimately, we made the decision to release the film during the summer. The date will be July 31st. We also want to do something a little special and we are trying to organize a livestream (most likely on our Facebook page) to kick things off. Not only will we be showing the short film, we will also be showcasing some of the bonus material we shot as well.
That being said, the package that comes with the bonus material will be going up on VHX at the same time.
BRIMSTONE TERRACE:
This year is the 5th Anniversary of Brimstone Terrace. As of July 23rd, the first episode premiered on Blip TV. To celebrate, we are releasing a package on VHX that contains all 6 episodes and some newly created special features.
That will actually be launching on the 23rd. There will be a little promo video going up on the release date so keep an eye out for that. I think everything we put in here is pretty cool.

PODCAST:
I've got a bit of room on the post here, so I'll also throw in the fact that we released a new episode recently. It was Torture Podcast IV. Beth, Chris and I talked about King Kung Fu, Mac and Me and The Conqueror. Lots of "fun" was had. There should be another episode coming this month.
ZERO G:
Recently, I finally finished remastering my first official short film, ZERO G. The film itself can be seen HERE. It's a piece of crap I made back in 2010, so keep that in mind. Anyway, it was important to me to preserve that since the original cut is completely gone. So it meant a lot when some of the others from the IC crew jumped in to help with new voice overs and other technical tasks. We broke it all down in this video to the left. I would really like to start doing those kind of videos when ever we work on other people's projects (provided they want us to). We'll see if we do more in the future.
Cantu and I also recorded a retrospective on the short and that will be coming out next week.

Anyway, that's all I've got for now. More news soon to come!

A Holiday Surprise!

Hey everyone!
We still have great news rolling in. The major thing being that LIVING AFTER MIDNIGHT is streaming on our website for free. From now to January 1st, you'll be able to see the film right here. But if you want to check out the bonus features as well, or even give us a little support, the full package on VHX is now starting at $1.
For anyone who has been curious about the film, now is your chance to see it. I wanted to think of something special we could give to you guys. Not sure if this really constitutes as such, but it's close enough.
We also put together a little ad for the occasion that features characters from BRIMSTONE TERRACE. It was nice to have everyone reprise their roles for a dumb little promo video and I had fun putting it together. (If anything THIS is the gift.)
But we still have a few surprises in store for you. So stay tuned for more updates!

Magnificent Seven Podcast & Other News!

9/23/2016

Hey everyone!
It’s been a little while since the last update. We’ve been extremely busy with multiple projects. Unfortunately, it’s a bunch of stuff that won’t be seen for a long time. I, myself, have been juggling a lot of projects plus trying to get some other stuff sorted.
But you didn’t come here to be teased! You want answers! “What can you guys talk about,” you scream.

Well, first of all there is a new episode of the podcast out. In this episode, we chat about the remake of “The Magnificent Seven”. As I probably mention in the episode itself, this one of the last two episodes for “season 2” of the podcast. Usually around this area of time is when we take a small hiatus. This year we opted to take more of a soft break. After our next small episode, we’ll be back in full swing (I think).

Another thing we’ve been working on is making another big website update. It will essentially be version 3.0 and it will be the biggest change yet. Not THAT big though.
The last thing I’ll bring up for now is a little image I posted on Twitter and Instagram (by the way we have an Instagram now!). What I will tell you is that it’s a VERY SMALL video featuring some familiar characters promoting something cool we’ll be doing later this year. Don’t get your hopes up for anything else, buddy-boy! We’ve been slowly chugging away at that and it should be pretty neat when it’s done.

All in all, we should have some pretty cool stuff happening at the end of the year. Stay tuned and we’ll deliver.

Peace out, losers!!!

Podcast News, New Projects, Is Brimstone REALLY Over?

2/14/2015

Hey guys!
I have a lot of things to cover. So let’s get right to it.

PODCAST NEWS:
Several new podcast episodes have gone up since the last time we updated the blog. You can find them all HERE.

We’ve come to realize that the podcast isn’t exactly popular on YouTube. For understandable reasons too. YouTube isn’t really the place for that sort of thing. But regardless, we don’t intend to stop making them. Chris and I thoroughly enjoy doing them and have plans for many, many episodes in the future. But to prevent from flooding our subscriber’s home pages with videos they don’t want to watch and cluttering up our channel, we’re working on providing a new home for the show. Mainly, iTunes. It’s just a matter of finding an easy and affordable way to do it. Hell, if you know a way, e-mail Chris about it.

Podcasts may be our main source of content for the next several months due to reasons I’ll explain in a bit. So if you like them, you’re in for a treat. If you haven’t listened to them, you should try one of the more recent ones. If you hate them, then why are you reading this part?

NEW PROJECTS:
We have a couple things going on this year that we are very excited about.

Jamie may be putting a couple projects together this year and we can’t wait to see them happen!

The other thing is a very big project that I am helming. We can’t really talk about any of this stuff just yet. But this is where pretty much all of our time is going right now. We’re very excited about it and can’t wait to tell everyone about it.

WILL THERE BE MORE BRIMSTONE TERRACE?:
So it’s been a little over a month since the last episode of Brimstone Terrace went up and I still get the question, “Will there be more Brimstone Terrace in the future,” from time to time. I suppose I haven’t been totally clear about it. So let me take this opportunity to give you an answer and explain myself.

The short answer is no.
The long answer is NOOOOOOOO.
There’s a variety of reasons why. The show went into serious development a little over two years ago now. It’s been a long and very difficult journey working on the series. Each and every person who worked on it gave a lot of effort and I cannot thank them enough. Seriously, I’m so thankful for those people.
When I was developing the show, I had a plan for three seasons (each consisting of 6 episodes). Up until Episode 5 of this season, the plan remained the same. We were preparing to start pre-production on Season 2 as soon as Episode 6 was finished. So what changed our minds? Honestly, when we had our brief cancellation back in May, it got me thinking about a future without Brimstone. After getting things up and running again, it made me really consider if I wanted to spend another year (possibly two) and drop a bunch of money on another season of a show that no one is watching and the answer was no.
I would rather spend my time and money working on something that is going to move my career forward, something new.

This isn’t to say that I never want to revisit Brimstone EVER. I still have two seasons worth of material and if some other animation studio were to approach me wanting to work on it and someone else was willing to foot the bill, I’d totally be willing to write and produce them. But the fact of the matter is, that probably isn’t going to happen.

I just want to thank everyone who checked out the series once again. You guys are awesome and I hope you all enjoyed it. I’m sure there is a lot of people out there who are sick of hearing about Brimstone at this point and I totally get that. There may be a few little things here and there about it. But overall, we’re done with it.

Stay tuned everyone! We have some cool stuff coming up!

Episode 6 is here! Also, other good news!

We came, we saw, we kicked it's ass! The sixth and final episode of Brimstone Terrace is now online!
I can feel the weight sprouting wings and flying off of my shoulders. It's been a long 7 months working on that last episode and an even longer 2 years working on the series as a whole. I think I can say that I'm proud of it as a whole, but some time away from it will definitely improve my feelings about it. It has truly been an exhausting but educational experience for me. I already can't wait to get the ball rolling on my next project and apply everything I've learned to it.

Regardless of the extreme delays, I sincerely hope you enjoy it. You can see the episode HERE!

So what do we have on our plate now? Well, the next thing we have coming up (very soon I might add) is the online release of our short film we made for the 48 Hour Film Project back in July. We finally got around to digging it out and touching it up for a proper release and I think it is complete. So next Friday, expect to see "Wish You Were Here".

Surely we have more than that, right? Well, yeah. But I feel like it's best if we get back to you about that some other time. We have a feeling this is going to be a great year. We hope it's good for you as well.

The most recent thing to go wrong...

12/28/2014

Well everyone, if I've learned one thing throughout my over eight years of filmmaking, it's that when things get bad, there's a very good chance they will only get even worse.

Now what am I trying to say here? Well, as of Friday, I was feeling pretty good. Pretty much all I had to do was export the last two scenes of Episode 6 and I would be finished with editing. Unfortunately I've been having a bit of computer trouble and I wasn't able to export them. So after exploring several options, Chris and I determined that my computer needed to be reformatted (which it did). So I went out and bought an external hard drive.
For those of you who may not know, reformatting your computer basically wipes it clean and restores it to the original state that you bought it in. It's like new. So I put all of my files on the external drive and we went through with the reformatting.

The computer works great. But the problem lies in the very strange fact that random files seemed to not transfer over properly to the external drive. And what else wouldn't have shown up but the project files for the last two scenes. Two scenes that are incredibly complicated and took me weeks to complete. As you can probably guess, if they are gone, they are gone. There is no way to retrieve them.

So what's going to happen now? I have a few options that I'm going to explore to maybe get this thing done. I have until the 5th of January. If there isn't an easy way to fix this or I can't finish it by then, consider the project dead.

I've dealt with too much over the past 7 months to let this flop over and die. But I also can't allow myself to waste anymore time and money on a project that I know no one really cares about. Honestly, everyone can live the rest of their lives without knowing how Brimstone Terrace ends. If anything, I'm doing this for myself.

There will be an update when there is something to say. Until then, I'll be locking myself in a room until I figure this out.

A little bit of news (Brimstone & Podcast)

11/28/2014

Hey everyone! Sorry about the extended absence from the blog. But honestly, there hasn't been much to report for a while. There is now though!

PODCAST:
Chris and I have had a little trouble trying to find time to properly record podcasts. But recently, we were able to record three new episodes. One of which came out tonight and can be found HERE. It was sort of an impromptu conversation about superhero films. We were talking after a pre-production meeting for a new project and found ourselves in the middle of a discussion that we should have been recording. So we did just that! The audio is a little bad because we opted for a Skype recorder in place of our usual method of recording our own audio. But I think it's usable.
Next week and the week after, we will be airing the other two new episodes. These are both part of a two-part Tarantino conversation as we promised before. Not sure what the plan is beyond that yet. But we'll let you know soon.

BRIMSTONE TERRACE:
Oh boy. I promise I won't give anymore "release dates". We are still waiting for the other animator to finish with her shots. Luckily, that will be soon. The only thing she has to do now is color the shots, which doesn't generally take too long. However, because of the unexpected extended wait, we've had to pay more than we expected for editing software to the point where I can no longer afford to pay for it (for the time being). Unless the wind blows 30 dollars by my feet, I don't know how I'm going to finish this.
I'm not giving up by any means. We've invested a lot of time into this and we're about 80% done. I just need to find a way to finish this thing and I don't know how I will yet. Sorry everyone.

Other than that, I don't know if theres much to say right now. We have things going on behind the scenes that we can't talk about yet. The plan is to make an update video with all sorts of announcements once Brimstone is finished (whenever that is). Until then, stay tuned for more podcasts!
